Former Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia believes the Nerazzurri’s Supercoppa Italiana exit against Bologna exposed a recurring flaw, arguing that the team lack the ruthlessness required to turn dominance into trophies.

Speaking on Sport Mediaset, via FCInterNews, Ranocchia framed the defeat as a game of fine margins rather than a collapse.

“Football is made up of episodes, but Inter lack concreteness,” he explained.

“They’re the team that creates the most chances, and even the match against Bologna wasn’t a disaster.”

In his view, the contest itself was balanced.

“We saw an even match, one half each, with plenty of chances at both ends.”

Where Inter fell short, Ranocchia argued, was in their approach inside the box.

“There’s a lack of cunning,” he said.

“It’s a team that plays well, creates a lot and is very pleasing to watch.”

That aesthetic strength, however, can become a weakness.

“There’s the risk of always waiting for the perfect chance,” he warned, suggesting Inter can be overly selective in decisive moments.

Ranocchia believes the solution lies in embracing a more pragmatic edge.

“They need to be more ruthless and find ‘dirty’ goals,” he said.

“Inter look beautiful and always want to score beautiful goals.” Against organised opponents like Bologna, that insistence can be costly.

The assessment aligns with the broader post-Supercoppa narrative: control without closure.

Inter’s structure and chance creation remain strong, but until they add a sharper instinct for opportunism, Ranocchia suggests, decisive matches will continue to hinge on missed details rather than dominance.
