A former Sochaux caterer has admitted stealing the club’s Sochalion mascot costume, according to L’Est Républicain. The outfit was taken from Stade Bonal ahead of last Friday’s match.

Sochalion did not attend the historic promotion match against Le Puy-en-Velay, with FC Sochaux-Montbéliard rising to Ligue two.

After nearly a week of inquiries, the case concluded with the confession, which was reportedly described as a foolish act. He had left the club at the end of 2025 after a disagreement.

He was seen at Bonal that day, and analysis of phone data helped identify him.

The costume is safe and was recovered at the caterer’s premises. It will be returned to the club, with the mascot set to resume duties in Ligue two.

The caterer is due in court on 15 October.
