Former West Brom coach Damia Abella joins Fiorentina staff under 2006 World Cup winner Grosso | OneFootball

Former West Brom coach Damia Abella has joined Fiorentina as a technical collaborator, working under newly appointed head coach Fabio Grosso, Italy’s 2006 World Cup winner.

Abella said he was starting a very special stage, thanked Grosso and the club for their trust, and spoke of arriving excited to commit fully to the project.

The 44-year-old spent more than three and a half years with Albion before leaving this summer. He arrived at the end of 2022, shortly after compatriot Carlos Corberan took charge at The Hawthorns.

A former Barcelona academy graduate who had a spell at Watford, Abella worked as a statistical analyst at West Brom, covering several departments including set pieces. He stayed on after Corberan’s exit in December 2024 for a further 18 months, serving under Tony Mowbray, Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, and during James Morrison’s caretaker stint.

He departs with a UEFA A Licence and a strong reputation among players and staff at The Hawthorns. Fiorentina, twice champions of Serie A, finished 15th in Italy’s top flight last season. Grosso previously managed Sassuolo and Lyon.
