Boca Juniors have had a 3 million dollar bid for Adam Bareiro rejected by Fortaleza, who share his rights with River Plate. The Ceará club currently play in Brazil's second tier.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Boca sporting director Marcelo Delgado, who is leading the negotiations, received the negative response.
Fortaleza want 2 million dollars for their 50 percent, so Boca would need to raise the offer to about 4 million to buy the full rights. River are not involved in the talks and would have to accept what is agreed between the other two clubs.
On those terms, Bareiro would remain in Brazil.
Boca have until Friday, 20 February to reach an agreement if they want to register the striker.
The window extension was granted after Rodrigo Battaglia suffered an Achilles tendon injury. The midfielder has undergone surgery and is out for the season, opening this route to add a replacement.
