Portsmouth have announced the news that Ella Humphrey has signed a one-year professional contract with the club.

Pompey revealed the player’s new deal via a post on their official club website this evening.

The forward initially joined Portsmouth early in the 2022/2023 campaign. She signed for the Hampshire club on a dual-registration basis from Barclays Women’s Super League side Brighton & Hove Albion. Pompey made the arrangement permanent in the summer 2023 transfer window.

The 19-year-old Welsh youth international made 16 appearances for Portsmouth in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division last season as the club went on to win the title. She netted six league goals in those matches.

After retaining Humphrey’s services on a professional basis, Portsmouth head coach Jay Sadler said “I’m over the moon for Ella. Becoming a full-time professional footballer is one thing, but to do it at your childhood club must be a dream come true.

“She’s had to remain patient for her opportunity and towards the back end of the season, we all saw the quality she brings. Hopefully, now she can use it as a platform to really push on.”

Humphrey is the eighth player to have agreed professional terms with Portsmouth this summer. She has joined teammates Hannah Haughton, Riva Casley, Georgie Freeland, Jazz Younger, Sophie Quirk, Emily Pitman and Annie Rolf in going full-time with Pompey ahead of the 2024/2025 Barclays Women’s Championship campaign.
