FLW's Bolton Wanderers Fan Pundit says four players could be heading out the door
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
FLW's Bolton Wanderers Fan Pundit, Liam O'Meara, has identified four players who could depart from the Toughsheet Community Stadium in January.
The Trotters saw 14 summer signings arrive in Greater Manchester during the transfer window, and they currently find themselves 10th in League One on seven points.
Along with the large number of signings, a dozen players left the club - in what manager Steven Schumacher said was " a good summer, a good transfer window."
"To bring in 14 players is a big turnover," he added.
Trotter's Fan Pundit O'Meara, told FLW that he thinks there's more than one player that could be on their way out when the January window opens.
"There’s a few that potentially could leave. I think McAtee and Randall, for the right offer, are both available and could leave," he claimed.John McAtee impressed during a loan spell at Barnsley before being signed by Bolton from Luton Town in 2024 for around £1m.
The Bolton News reported that the Tykes had made a deadline day offer to bring McAtee back to Yorkshire on loan, which the club obviously rejected.
Prior to playing 12 minutes against AFC Wimbledon on the 6th September, McAtee was dropped from Schumacher's squad for two weeks - so it was understandable why Barnsley would be interested in bringing a player back who scored 15 goals in 45 games for them.
As for Joel Randall, the 25-year-old attacking midfielder signed for a reported £1.2m in January - the man who signed him, Ian Evatt had previously been unsuccessful in pursuing him the summer they signed McAtee.
Evatt revealed upon Randall signing, "We worked very hard to try and get him here in the summer."
Although he's started five of the six league games he's appeared in, O'Meara believes he could be out the door for the right offer.
O'Meara mentioned Nigerian striker Victor Adeboyejo could be on his way out in a few months - and the 27-year-old is yet to feature this season because of injury.
"I also think that Victor Adeboyejo, who is injured at moment, may well look for a move when he comes back into fitness as well," O'Meara added.Adeboyejo suffered a somewhat unusual back injury caused by a "hefty sneeze" in September last year, before more seriously suffering an ACL injury in March.By that point, he had started just 12 of the 27 league matches he played in and only found the back of the net on three occasions. So, O'Meara's suggestion that he may seek a move upon his return to fitness does make sense given Bolton signed the likes of Sam Dalby, Mason Burstow and Marcus Forss in the summer. All three of whom are strikers.Centre-back George Johnston is another included on O'Meara's list for potential departures. "In terms of other players in and around the squad, I do think George Johnston is one for the right offer - I think Bolton will look to potentially bring somebody else in that position as well, but only providing that we sell first.
"So, I still think there’s little bits left to do," O'Meara concluded.
Football Insider reported in August that Preston North End, Queens Park Rangers and Wycombe Wanderers were all considering moves for the Scotland youth international.
As the 27-year-old enters the final year of his contract, it would make sense for the club to try and offload him for a fee instead of nothing next summer. Although he has mentioned in an interview how "natural" it feels for him "being part of the leadership group" at Bolton.
Ultimately, all the aforementioned players will have to wait and see whether they are heading out the door in January. But, O'Meara's suggestions do make it seem like another turnaround of players could happen.
