Benfica and Sporting have been fined by the Portuguese Football Federation’s Disciplinary Council over incidents across the last two games of the Liga Placard futsal final, with Benfica receiving the heaviest punishment.
According to Glorioso 1904, the sanctions stem from referee and delegate reports about supporter behaviour. Benfica were fined €5,100 for the fifth and decisive game.
Of that, €3,978 related to conduct at Pavilhão Fidelidade, where the official report said several supporters spat towards the second referee, Filipe Duarte, and chanted songs deemed offensive to Sporting.
Use of pyrotechnics, including three flash-lights, two smoke pots and a flare, and the throwing of two rigid plastic cups at Sporting’s party en route to the trophy ceremony also drew punishment. A further €1,122 was added after a post-match court invasion by Benfica fans, which interrupted Sporting coach Nuno Dias’s flash interview.
In the same game, Sporting were fined €714 for insulting chants by their supporters. Tomás Paçó received a one-match ban and a €51 fine for a foul judged to have denied a clear scoring chance by tripping an opponent.
Incidents from the fourth match on 25 June were also punished, with Sporting fined €2,550 for offensive chants aimed at Benfica, insults directed at Pany Varela and an incident in which a supporter spat towards the officials, hitting one on the back.
