It’s another FPL game week and another selection headache as we aim to select who may be the best option to trust with the captain’s armband ahead of GW6.
Last weekend kicked off with a Merseyside derby and a victory for last year’s champions, Liverpool, as they continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 defeat over their neighbours. A late goal for the Gunners meant Arsenal and Manchester City were unable to be separated as they met at the Emirates; the 1-1 result may be crucial in the landscape of the title race.
Following an early red card for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, Manchester United secured an important 2-1 victory over Chelsea in a repeat of the 2007/08 Champions League Final, what either team would give to be back competing for Europe’s elite trophy now…
We chose Alex Iwobi as our alternate pick last weekend and the Nigerian International did not disappoint; he returned an impressive 13 points that included a goal, an assist and 3 bonus points as he scooped the man-of-the-match award against London rivals Brentford.
Let’s hope our pick for GW6 will be able to stamp his authority on proceedings Monday night.
The Manchester City frontman will have fond memories as they prepare to welcome newly promoted Burnley to the Etihad this weekend. He has faced the Clarets 3 times and has impressively hit the net on 5 separate occasions.
Having bagged early on against title rivals Arsenal last weekend, there is a feeling the Swedish International is approaching his best form. A notion that doesn’t bode well for Scott Parker’s side this weekend.
It’s also another opportunity for the 25-year-old to extend his lead at the top of the goalscoring charts, with his closest rivals 3 goals behind already.
The Liverpool man has yet to hit top form but has shown signs over the last couple of matches that his best form may not be too far away, a scary prospect for opposition defences considering he already has 2 goals and 2 assists to his name.
This weekend, the Reds head to London to face Community Shield rivals Crystal Palace in the hope that they can ruin the Eagles’ impressive 17 match unbeaten streak. If they’re to avoid defeat this weekend, they will equal a club record set in 1969.
Despite a less than impressive beginning to the season for the Hammers, the one constant bright spark has been the performances of their captain and top-scorer Jarrod Bowen.
Graham Potter’s side have accumulated 3 points and currently sit in the relegation zone but with a trip to Merseyside to face Everton on Monday night, they will fancy their chances of adding to that tally.
After 5 GW’s, the England international has 24 FPL points to his name but will have his sights set on adding to that this weekend.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – Everton (£5.0m)
Opponent: West Ham United (H)
The Toffees currently sit in mid-table after a solid start to the season that will undoubtedly please fans. Following a Merseyside derby that they will be disappointed not to have salvaged at least a draw from, they welcome West Ham to their brand-new stadium on Monday night as they look to continue their charge up the league.
Following an unsuccessful spell at Chelsea, 27-year-old Dewsbury-Hall has been key to their success over recent weeks. The versatility, work rate & creativity the Englishman has shown since his move have transformed their midfield and he has been crucial to their success so far this season.
His link-up with fellow summer signing Jack Grealish has breathed a real breath of fresh air into David Moyes’ side and now is the perfect time to bring him into your FPL team and trust him with the armband.
