Before Monday’s FA Cup win at Macclesfield came the league match at home to leaders Arsenal, taking the most frequent scorers from set-pieces to the side that specialises in causing chaos from long throws.
Sure enough, Brentford equalised following a throw in the 71st minute, as Michael Kayode’s (£4.5m) fling was flicked on by Sepp van den Berg (£4.5m) towards Keane Lewis-Potter (£4.8m), who scored with a diving header.
In total, the Bees dug out 12 shots and three Opta-defined big chances, while Igor Thiago (£7.0m) carved out six opportunities against the meanest defence around. A close-range header being was perhaps his most agonising moment.
From Gameweek 17 onwards, Keith Andrews’ side has won six and drawn two of their 10 matches. Only Arsenal betters this, with only the Gunners and Chelsea having scored more goals in this period.
Over those fixtures, Brentford lead the way for big chances (36) and converting shots into goals (16.1%), focusing on higher-quality attempts rather than less-likely ones from distance.
Back from suspension, Kevin Schade’s (£6.9m) first challenge is to displace goalscorer Lewis-Potter on the left wing.
However, when available, he’s started every league match apart from the opening weekend at Nottingham Forest. That’s a factor to consider for managers wanting an extra - or alternative - way to cover Brentford’s attack against Brighton and Hove Albion, Burnley, Bournemouth, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United.
The German’s impressive 2024/25 campaign ended with 11 goals, four assists and 149 FPL points.

And right now, among midfielders, Schade is number one for headed efforts (17), fourth for penalty area shots (40), and second when it comes to big chances (14).
Away from the Arsenal and Wolves players who appeared twice during Double Gameweek 26, the biggest score came from Virgil van Dijk (£5.9m).
The Liverpool captain not only kept a clean sheet at Sunderland but also headed in the winner. Add in some defensive contribution (DefCon) rewards and bonus points, and he brought in a score of 17.
On the same night, an early three-goal burst allowed Manchester City to coast towards victory over Fulham. Antoine Semenyo (£7.9m) bagged his third goal in four, before assisting 13-pointer Nico O’Reilly (£4.9m).
Meanwhile, Jørgen Strand Larsen (£6.1m) scored two goals on his home Crystal Palace debut.
Like in the build-up to Gameweek 25, João Pedro (£7.7m) is the most-bought individual. In fact, before the previous three deadlines, he’d been purchased around 2.5 million times.
The Brazilian’s last five matches have been outstanding, contributing four goals, five assists and 48 points. He and Chelsea team-mate Cole Palmer (£10.6m) set each other up against Leeds, as the latter’s dozen points followed a hat-trick at Wolves.
Next, it’s recent Man City signing Semenyo. Those who sold in January, expecting some rotation under Pep Guardiola, may have to give up on this idea and go back to him. It’s hard to ignore such form and upcoming fixtures.
For owners of Bruno Guimarães (£7.0m), it’s a fairly straightforward switch, as the Newcastle United midfielder is expected to be injured for the next two months.
In Gameweek 27, every team is back to playing just once, meaning many eyes will return to the default position of Erling Haaland (£14.9m) at home to the Magpies. But he’s not scored past them in their last eight meetings.
Therefore, those owning a Chelsea attacker like João Pedro or Palmer are likely to instead trust them with the armband at home to Burnley.
Elsewhere, Hugo Ekitike (£8.9m) visits Nottingham Forest after having his minutes managed in the FA Cup.
