France will debut a glacier green away shirt against Brazil in Thursday’s friendly in the United States. Kick-off is at 21:00.
L'Équipe reports that the French Football Federation and Nike revealed the kit on Monday. The colour marks a clear break from anything the national side have worn before.
The shade is inspired by the oxidised copper of the Statue of Liberty, the monument gifted by France to the United States, in this year’s World Cup across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
France have never deliberately played in colours other than blue, white and red. Their only previous outing in green came at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, when a kitman’s error led organisers to find an amateur club’s shirt in Mar del Plata.
Brazil will also take the field in an unfamiliar look. For the first time, the Seleção wear a Jordan-branded shirt rather than Nike alone, a royal blue design with an abstract embers motif and the Jumpman beside the CBF crest, with five stars above.
France will then debut their new blue home shirt against Colombia on Sunday.
