"The process is under way," Frank McCourt said as he set out his search for a new Marseille president. He also confirmed director of football Medhi Benatia will leave at the end of the season, his notice running to June.

"My preference is for someone who knows France and Marseille, because I think it is crucial to understand the culture of the club. The person must also be an experienced, heavyweight manager," he told the Journal du Dimanche.

"Sport is complicated, I live it every day at professional level and have done for more than 20 years. But when I look at where Marseille were when I bought the club and where they are now, it is night and day."

"The next level, and hopefully the highest level, will require additional investment. We want to find the right strategic partner to achieve that."

The climate around the club has eased a little and results have only just picked up. In late February he addressed the crisis, with Roberto De Zerbi departing, Pablo Longoria stepping back then leaving, and Medhi Benatia initially retained despite resigning.

McCourt now hopes to conclude the presidency appointment by season’s end, alongside wider changes in the executive team that will shape a summer of further squad movement.
