What an honour for Franziska Kett! The FC Bayern Women defender has been named the Elite Student of the Year in Munich by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), in partnership with the German Savings Banks Association (DSGV). Kett was selected out of several young female and male athletes in a vote with representatives of the schools and the Olympic centre.

Double win, Abitur and EURO debut in one year

Kett has undergone a remarkable development in recent years. In 2020, the now 21-year-old moved from SpVgg GW Deggendorf to FC Bayern. Since then, she has worked her way up to the first team with hard work and talent – a journey that culminated in a historic success last year as Kett won the first double in the team’s history. But the full-back hasn't only made waves at club level. She received her first call-up to the German national team, was part of the European Championship squad in the summer, and was even selected for the Team of the Tournament for her performances.

Alongside her successes on the pitch, Kett has also mastered her education with impressive dedication. She successfully completed her Abitur, the German school-leaving certificate – proof of her determination and discipline. FC Bayern congratulates Kett on her recognition as Elite Student of 2025!

Rech: ‘Very proud of Franzi’

Bianca Rech, director of women’s football at FC Bayern: “What Franzi accomplished last year deserves the utmost respect. She managed to combine school, club and national team with aplomb. Particularly of note are the double, reaching the EURO semi-finals in her first finals as well as inclusion in the EURO Team of the Tournament. These successes are the result of her exceptional commitment and determination, which have characterised her for years. She’s a true role model for our young talents with her discipline and passion, showing what can be achieved with resolve and commitment. We’re very proud of her and offer our sincerest congratulations on the award as Elite Student of the Year.”

Bischof: ‘A true role model for our young players’

Nathalie Bischof, talent developemt coordinator: “Franzi joined us from Deggendorf in 2020 – a big step for a young player. She settled in with remarkable purpose and has steadily improved. Last year was exceptional: after injuries, Franzi fought her way back, made her debut for the national team, won the double and participated in the European Championship. It's particularly noteworthy that, alongside all these sporting challenges, she also passed her Abitur with flying colours – an extraordinary achievement that demonstrates how school and elite sports can be combined. Franzi is a true role model for our young players. We are delighted for her and this well-deserved award.”

Kett: ‘Delighted with the recognition’

Franziska Kett: “I’m very proud and incredibly grateful for this special award. It means a lot to me because I know how much hard work and persistence has gone into it. The last year in particular, with the Abitur, was very intense and often a big challenge to fit in school and sport. There were many moments when I was pushed to my limits but I kept trying to give my best in both areas and never neglect school. Looking back now, I can say that all the effort was worth it. I would do it all again and I’m delighted with the recognition I’ve now received for it.”
