Neymar is itching to return to Europe to have a better shot at convincing Carlo Ancelotti to call him up for the World Cup, and, in addition to Napoli, he has been offered to Inter too. His entourage thought they were in the market for that kind of player after missing out on Ademola Lookman, Fabrizio Romano reports (via Calciomercato).
The Nerazzurri didn’t take the bait during the summer, primarily because of his injury history. The fact that he picked a muscular problem while the window was open didn’t help his case.
Neymar will be proposed again to Inter and Napoli in January, when he’ll be able to switch sides for free since his contract with Santos will run out in December. As far as Serie A sides are concerned, he’d be an option only for sides that have an open slot to sign an extra-EU player.
The Brazilian forward agreed to a convoluted contract upon his return to his home country, with a very low base salary, about €650k, but he pockets 90 percent of the income generated by his name, image, and likeness, UOL informs (via Diretta). The stratagem has netted him about €8M in his first five months at the club.
The two powerhouses are set up front and are highly unlikely to pursue him. However, if he’s really adamant about playing in a competitive league and is willing to accept reasonable wages in exchange for regular minutes, there’d be a few ambitious second-tier Serie A teams that could make a run at him. It’d be a long shot, but it wouldn’t hurt to try.
