In a few weeks, Real Madrid players will return for the start of pre-season, although some of them will return later. One of those is expected be Brahim Diaz, whose Morocco side made it through to the last 32 of the 2026 World Cup, where they will face the Netherlands.
Brahim returned to Real Madrid in 2023 following an impressive three-year loan spell at Milan. He’s done relatively well in the three seasons since, with 20 goals and 22 assists across all competitions – this record is made more impressive given that he’s come off the bench in the vast majority of the matches he has played.
Despite having been an excellent squad player over the last three years, there is uncertainty over his future at the Bernabeu. According to Sport, there is no guarantee that he stays beyond the summer, with Jose Mourinho yet to make a decision on whether he sees him as part of his squad for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
Brahim’s future is unlikely to be resolved before the start of pre-season, but his first couple of weeks with Mourinho could determine whether he is retained or sold. The addition of Bernardo Silva means he has increased competition on the right side of attack, where there already was the likes of Arda Guler, Franco Mastantuono and the injured Rodrygo Goes.
In the event that he’s not fancied by Mourinho, Brahim is reportedly prepared to accept an exit with good grace. In terms of a possible move, he could be set for a return to Italy with Juventus, as he is one of several players being monitored by the Serie A giants.
It will certainly be interesting to see what happens with Brahim. He has been a fantastic squad option, but Mourinho may decide that he won’t be enough for his squad.
