As per Pete O'Rourke via X, Toronto FC have submitted a fresh offer for Norwich City's American striker Josh Sargent.

Sargent has not been involved in a matchday squad since the Canaries' 2-0 home loss to Stoke City at the beginning of January, having told manager Philippe Clement he does not wish to be made available for selection, angling for a move back to his native North America.

Toronto have already seen an $18 million (£13.5 million) rejected by Norwich, as per Fabrizio Romano, with the Canaries steadfast in their stance on the 25-year-old.

Norwich City receive fresh bid from Toronto FC in latest Josh Sargent transfer twist

MLS side Toronto are pushing to strike a deal with Norwich before the end of the month for Sargent, with the Canadian club submitting an improved offer for the American forward.

Details of the fresh offer are yet to be confirmed, but it can be assumed that it is more than the $18 million (£13.5 million) that was previously rejected.

Indeed, Norwich accepted a £21 million bid from German side VFL Wolfsburg in the summer for Sargent, only for him to turn down a return to Germany in favour of remaining in England.

Interest from other clubs in England had emerged, as reported by Mike McGrath via X, Nottingham Forest was another club that had previously been credited with a potential move for Sargent.

However, it appears as though Sargent only wants a move to Toronto, citing his desire to return to his native continent for family reasons, with reports emerging of a heated argument with sporting director Ben Knapper surfacing, where the American left the meeting visibly upset.

Whether Norwich will accept this fresh offer remains to be seen, but with the American unlikely to play for the Canaries again, a deal may well be found within the next week, with just days of the window remaining.

Josh Sargent's transfer saga will leave a sour taste for Philippe Clement and Norwich City supporters

Throughout his stay with Norwich, Sargent has remained one of the club's most prized assets and important players, showing proven consistency in front of goal and hard work without it.

The American has scored 56 goals and grabbed 15 assists in 156 appearances across all competitions with Norwich, though this season, his form has taken a huge dip, culminating in the Canaries finding themselves in the lower reaches of the Championship table.

Though since Philippe Clement took charge at Carrow Road following the dismissal of Liam Manning, performances and results have seen a major upturn, with their latest 2-1 win at home to high-flying Coventry City providing the club with all the belief it needs to get them out of this tricky situation.

And their upturn has largely been without Sargent, proving that he may not be as important as once thought.

Despite this, Sargent became a real fan favourite at Carrow Road, and his refusal to play and eagerness to leave the club whilst in a precarious decision will no doubt leave a sour taste in the mouths of those at Norwich.

Whether a move will go through before the window closes remains to be seen, but Toronto haven't given up their pursuit just yet, and it is really just down to whether Norwich feels this latest bid matches their valuation.
