Manchester United’s ownership saga could take another twist, with reports suggesting a consortium from the United Arab Emirates is weighing up a potential £5bn bid to buy the club from the Glazer family.

According to Sky Sports, early discussions have taken place within the group, which is said to be exploring ways to secure backing from regional investors and high-profile former United players to serve as ambassadors. However, sources indicate that no formal contact has yet been made with the Glazers, who retain majority control of the Premier League club.

Speculation intensified after Saudi sports minister Turki Alalshikh claimed on social media that United were in “advanced negotiations” over a sale to a new investor, though those reports remain unverified.

The Glazer family, who also own the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have long faced criticism from United supporters over their ownership model and financial management. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority investment earlier this year had appeared to signal a new era of stability at Old Trafford, but renewed takeover rumours suggest interest in the club remains strong on the global stage.
