Wout Faes' time as a Leicester City player appears to be nearing the end.
Leicester City defender Wout Faes is in talks regarding an exit from the King Power Stadium amid interest from multiple European clubs.
Leicester could well lose Belgian defender Faes before the end of the window, after it was announced by Florian Plettenberg via X that German side VFL Wolfsburg are interested in exploring a deal for Faes.
Faes has appeared in all three Championship games so far this season under new boss Marti Cifuentes, albeit as a substitute on each occasion, with Caleb Okoli and Jannik Vestergaard the preferred pairing for now.
Following the sale of Wesley Fofana to Chelsea for £75 million, Leicester quickly swooped for the £15 million signing of Belgian centre-back Faes from French side Reims in the summer of 2022, joining on a five-year deal.
However, in his first season with the club, Leicester suffered a shock relegation to the Championship, with Faes having been an almost ever-present figure in the Foxes' backline, appearing 31 times in the Premier League as Leicester shipped a dismal 68 goals.
Now entering his fourth year at the club, it appears as though the 27-year-old's time in Leicestershire may be over, with both Wolfsburg and Turkish club Besiktas holding an interest in the Belgian international, the latter of which has reportedly offered him a four-year deal to leave for Istanbul.
Wolfsburg have been delving into the English Championship market this summer, having completed a deal for Sheffield United midfielder Vinicius Souza and held a firm interest in Coventry City's Milan Van Ewijk, but the latter deal appears to have now fallen through.
With the news of Slovakian defender Denis Vavro requiring major surgery, Wolfsburg have identified Faes as a potential target to come in and replace him.
Wolfsburg now have just Konstantinos Koulierakis and Moritz Jenz as the club's only fit senior centre-backs, and although no decision has been made on Faes just yet, the German club are in talks with Leicester over a potential deal for the Belgian.
Should Faes leave this summer, he will join the likes of Mads Hermansen, Kasey McAteer, James Justin, Wilfried Ndidi and Conor Coady, who have all left the club this summer for multi-million-pound fees.
Elsewhere, Jamie Vardy, Danny Ward, and Daniel Iversen have all left the club on free transfers, as the Foxes' mass exodus could reach nine with the departure of Faes.
38-year-old backup goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is the club's only signing so far this summer, leaving the squad almost threadbare as the deadline approaches in a few days.
Should Faes leave, this will leave just Okoli, Vestergaard, the injured Harry Souttar, who isn't expected back until at least next year, and Ben Nelson, who lacks sufficient experience and pedigree, as the club's only centre-back options.
