In the aftermath of Bayern Munich's pre-season friendly defeat to Wehen Wiesbaden, Christoph Freund discussed future squad planning.
“We're very far along. We also don't want the squad to be too big this year," Freund said, speaking to Abendzeitung after the game.
"We want quality and, hopefully, players who remain fit and available throughout the entire course of the season.
"There won't be much more movement in terms of new signings. We're very happy with where we are and feel we're well equipped," he added.
When asked about João Palhinha's position going forward, the Bayern sporting director said the player is aware of their plans to sell him.
However, in a separate interview, Palhinha seemed to suggest otherwise, claiming his “plan is to keep his position here [at Bayern]”.
If that excerpt doesn't leave some questions over clarity, Freund was at least more assured of Michael Olise's presence in Munich:
“We're looking forward to Michael returning from his vacation. He will play an important role for FC Bayern this season, just as he did last season as well.”
