The coming weeks will be pivotal for Max Eberl. Following the successful signings of Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown, Bayern’s sporting director has solidified his position within the club. However, the 52-year-old faces his next test before the supervisory board meeting at the end of August.

When Uli Hoeneß stated shortly before the DFB Cup final that the odds of Eberl remaining beyond the summer of 2027 currently stood at “60 to 40,” it was a clear signal. The honorary president thus made it public that the sporting director does not yet enjoy the full confidence of the club’s leadership.

By that point at the latest, it must have been clear to Eberl that the current summer transfer window could be decisive for his future with Germany’s record-holding champions.

Saibari and Brown Earn Eberl Brown Points

As SPORT1 reports, however, Eberl has earned important brownie points internally in recent weeks. The signings of Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown, in particular, are viewed positively at Säbener Straße.

Both transfers were planned early and finalized without any major public delays. FC Bayern invested a total of around 100 million euros for the duo.

In line with this, Eberl explained after signing Saibari: “Transfers like these don’t happen on a whim, but rather through forward-thinking work: The key was that we positioned ourselves early with him.”

It is precisely this forward-thinking approach that is said to have been well received by the supervisory board.

With these two new signings, the club’s transfer planning on the incoming side appears to be complete for now. The focus is now shifting to the list of players to be sold.

According to information from SPORT1, the supervisory board expects Eberl to recoup a significant portion of the investments through transfer proceeds while simultaneously reducing salary costs.

Initial revenue has already been generated. Daniel Peretz, Alexander Nübel, and Jonah Kusi-Asare have already left the club, bringing in a combined total of around 20 million euros.

Further proceeds are also on the horizon. Jonathan Asp Jensen is set to join Deportivo La Coruña, while Noel Aseko is expected to move to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Eberl’s decision will be made at the end of August

However, the biggest issues remain. Sacha Boey, João Palhinha, and Bryan Zaragoza, in particular, are expected to leave the club. So far, however, there have been no concrete offers for the trio that meet Munich’s expectations.

Min-jae Kim and Hiroki Ito also remain among the players for whom a summer sale cannot be ruled out.

Developments on the left side of the defense are also worth watching. With the signing of Nathaniel Brown, Alphonso Davies now faces serious competition for the first time in quite a while. According to SPORT1, while the Canadian is still considered an important part of the team for the upcoming season, a sale in the summer of 2027 is not entirely ruled out.

Bayern’s supervisory board will meet at the end of August and will also address the future of Max Eberl. Until then, the sporting director still has plenty of time to further improve his positive transfer record.

With Saibari and Brown, Eberl has already made a strong case for himself. Whether this will ultimately be enough to secure a contract extension will likely depend largely on how successfully he streamlines the roster in the coming weeks and generates additional revenue.
