Gabi Zanotti praises Corinthians after Copa das Campeãs win over Gotham

Last Wednesday (28), Corinthians defeated Gotham FC 1-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium in London, England, securing a spot in the final of the FIFA Women's Champions Cup. The result put the black-and-white club in the final of the international tournament after a solid performance against the North American team.

After the match, captain and goal scorer Gabi Zanotti commented on the team's performance and highlighted the significance of the victory, especially given the narrative built before the match, in which part of the international press had pointed to Gotham as the favorite to reach the final.

“We heard a lot of things, but football is played on the pitch, right? I think today, once again, we showed the value of Brazilian football. We are not here just representing Corinthians, but also our country, our continent, and thousands of children who dream of one day getting here,” said Zanotti.

Gabi Zanotti also explained the strategy adopted by the team for the match, highlighting the study done on the opponent and the efficiency of the black-and-white team throughout the game.

“Exactly, I think that was the game plan. There were no surprises, they didn't surprise us at any point in the match. We analyzed all the opponent's videos and knew that, in this game, we would have less possession. In Brazil, we are sometimes used to having more possession, right? And that's also why we decided to defend a bit deeper, because it's the start of the year, with little preparation time, and because they like to keep the ball. But in my view, even though they had more of the ball, we created the best chances. And that's football, it's not just about volume, it's not just about possession. Football is translated into goals. I think we did very well. Maybe, if we had been a bit more efficient, the score could have been even better,” she commented.

The captain also emphasized the importance of qualifying and reinforced Corinthians' goal in the competition.

“Very special. Today was truly a very special afternoon for this group. Extremely happy. I think we've already taken a step. As I said, our goal is not just to reach the final, but to win this title again, to show more and more our value, and to prove that Brazilian women's football deserves respect,” concluded the number 10.

Corinthians now prepares to compete for the unprecedented trophy next Sunday, February 1st, at 3:00 pm (Brasília time), against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
