Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson has appeared to ease injury fears after taking a knee knock on Sweden duty.
He started at left-back in Thursday’s 3-1 World Cup play-off semi-final win over Ukraine. Viktor Gyokeres hit a hat-trick to set up a final with Poland on Tuesday. Midway through the second half he tried to continue after the knock, then was replaced by Daniel Svensson.
“It's the same as always,” he said. “Take care of your body and make sure you're ready for Tuesday. Of course, I wanted to [play on], but it was a trade-off and it felt good,” Gudmundsson told the Sweden Herald.
Leeds will be relieved by his assessment, with four days to recover before he can hopefully prove fit to feature again. Sweden are 90 minutes and a victory over Poland from this summer’s World Cup.
“It means an incredible amount, not just to us but to everyone else as well,” the Leeds defender added. “There are a lot of positives to take away from this match. We will take that feeling with us.”
He later posted on social media, writing “1 more to go.”
