Leeds United left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson says he is fully fit for Sweden’s 2026 World Cup, adding: "We had a plan to build myself up for the World Cup and I feel one hundred percent physically."

He also conceded, speaking to Svenska Dagbladet: "The rhythm wasn't the best, but the most important thing was to get going and feel it again."

The 27-year-old was sidelined a little over five weeks with a hamstring injury in Leeds’ FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea, missing the final four Premier League games as survival was secured.

Graham Potter still named him in Sweden’s squad. He sat out a friendly defeat to Norway, then played 64 minutes in a 2-2 draw with Greece before the squad flew into Dallas.

Gudmundsson hopes to keep his place when Sweden face Tunisia in Guadalupe, Mexico on June 15, then the Netherlands in Houston five days later, before Ao Tanka’s Japan in Arlington on June 26.

A £10million signing last summer, he has been among Leeds’ most consistent performers. "The goal was to help the club stay [up]," he said. "The fans have been supportive all season, absolutely fantastic."
