Gabriel Paulista admitted responsibility for the mistake that led to Santos’ equaliser in Corinthians’ 1-1 draw at Vila Belmiro, and said his side deserved the win.
Corinthians had been looking to respond after a home defeat by Coritiba, but the leveller arrived late in the first half following the centre-back’s defensive error. The player said in a post that the incident would serve as a lesson and that he understood its weight as a Corinthians supporter.
Head coach Dorival Júnior kept faith with the defender afterwards, addressing the error and emphasising collective responsibility, with a message that mistakes happen and the group wins and loses together.
The draw extended a mini winless run that a victory would have ended. Corinthians’ last success came on 19 February, away to Athletico-PR in the Brasileirão.
The team will reach a full month without a win on Thursday, when they visit Chapecoense at Arena Condá at 21h30.
Paulista joined in the current transfer window after terminating his deal with Besiktas in Türkiye. The 35-year-old has made 12 appearances so far, 10 as a starter, and has scored two goals.
