Galatasaray intend to launch legal action against UEFA after Noa Lang suffered a severe thumb injury when he struck an advertising hoarding during their Champions League defeat at Liverpool.
According to Fanatik, the club filed a complaint with UEFA representatives immediately after the match and are preparing a broader case seeking compensation linked to the player’s wages while he is out. General secretary Eray Yazgan said officials carried out initial checks, UEFA would now assess the matter, and Galatasaray were consulting their legal team to file for damages.
The 26-year-old sustained a deep laceration to his thumb in the closing stages of the 4-0 loss at the Anfield Road end. Medical staff treated him for several minutes before he was taken off on a stretcher to sympathetic applause from the 61,000 crowd, and he underwent emergency surgery on Merseyside today.
The match had been fractious, with Liverpool manager Arne Slot criticising perceived time-wasting earlier, but concern grew quickly once the extent of Lang’s distress became apparent.
The incident has prompted scrutiny of stadium safety, with Galatasaray expected to focus their case on an exposed sharp edge on the hoarding. There is no indication of negligence by Liverpool, though UEFA could issue sanctions or safety recommendations if the risk is deemed avoidable.
As Lang begins his recovery, attention turns to the long-term impact on his career. Galatasaray’s European exit has been overshadowed by the incident, and the club are looking to the courts to offset the financial and sporting damage.
