Rayan Cherki scored one and assisted another to inspire City to a hard-fought 2-1 Premier League victory over Nottingham Forest.

City end the year in style with late win at Forest

After a first 45 minutes with no efforts on target from either side, the game sparked into life three minutes after the interval, as a superb passing move saw Cherki slide Tijjani Reijnders through on goal to coolly slot us ahead.

We almost swiftly doubled the lead, but Cherki’s near-post strike was flicked onto the post well by Forest goalkeeper Victor.

However, six minutes before the hour mark, the hosts hauled themselves level, with Igor Jesus crossing for Omari Hutchinson to sweep beyond the sprawling Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The game became frantic and end to end, with Ruben Dias superbly deflecting a Jesus strike over the bar, before a wonderful save from Victor denied Phil Foden a certain goal from 10 yards.

Cherki was the hero with seven minutes left to play, as Josko Gvardiol knocked down a deep Foden corner to the edge of the box for the Frenchman to drill into the bottom corner, sending the away fans behind the goal into a frenzy.

The goal was enough for three more points, extending our winning run to eight matches in succession.
