Gary O’Neil has been appointed Strasbourg head coach, the 42-year-old taking charge after Liam Rosenior’s move to Chelsea earlier this week. Rosenior replaced Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge.
In a club statement, O’Neil said he was proud to join, eager to get started, and praised Racing’s history, passion and resilience. He highlighted the backing of loyal fans and said the squad has quality with clear ambitions. His focus, he added, is to work hard with the team for the club’s success.
O’Neil had held talks over replacing Rosenior. Strasbourg and Chelsea are sister clubs, both owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s BlueCo consortium.
He has been out of work since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in December 2024. He held initial talks in November 2025 about returning to Molineux to replace Vitor Pereira, then withdrew before Rob Edwards was appointed.
O’Neil previously led Bournemouth in 2022-23, guiding the south-coast side to safety before being replaced by Andoni Iraola. Strasbourg are seventh in Ligue 1 and winless in five.
His first match will be against French fourth division side Avranches in the Coupe de France on Saturday.
