Exactly a week ago, Gasperini spoke of a “core” squad expected to play most of the matches.
Yet, the days leading up to the derby have been full of unexpected events, writes Il Messaggero.
The first, undoubtedly the most serious, was Dybala’s injury against Torino, which will keep him out for at least two weeks.
Further complicating the situation are the physical problems of Wesley and Hermoso, two major question marks just hours before the match against Lazio.
The Brazilian has been struggling with gastrointestinal issues since Thursday: it’s not an injury, but the virus has forced him to miss two consecutive training sessions.
Even before the match against Torino, he had risked withdrawing due to muscle soreness.
The team will train this afternoon and then spend the night at Trigoria: Gasperini hopes to have him available. A cautious optimism filters through the Giallorossi, but in the meantime, Rensch is warming up.
