Barcelona star Gavi has this week spoken out on the speculation that he is growing frustrated with his role in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Gavi, for his part, was forced to make do with a place on the bench once more last night, as Barcelona played host to Benfica in the Champions League.
The youngster was ultimately introduced to proceedings during the 2nd-half, but the outcome of the tie had long been all but decided.
This marked just the latest occasion on which Gavi was left out of Barca’s first-choice XI, as boss Hansi Flick begins to lean on a first-choice midfield trio of Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Dani Olmo.
As much had given rise to chatter in the media of late that the Spanish international was growing frustrated with his lack of playing time.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of Tuesday’s clash, such claims were, in turn, put to Gavi himself.
The 20-year-old, though, made use of the opportunity to reiterate his happiness with his situation in Barcelona, explaining:
“I was never upset when I didn’t start… people make up a lot of things, but it’s all lies. I signed a 5-year contract here and I will stick to it, because this is the club of my life. I’m calm, the coach trusts me a lot.”
