Gaviões da Fiel allowed for Corinthians v Vasco final, security tight

Gaviões da Fiel has been allowed by the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) to attend the first game of the Copa do Brasil final between Corinthians and Vasco, this Wednesday (17), at 9:30 PM, at the Neo Química Arena. Despite being punished until the end of 2026, the main organized fan group of the alvinegro club will be in the North Sector of the stadium for the decisive match.

The authorization comes amid a special security scheme set up by the forces of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. According to UOL, the match has been internally classified by authorities as a “red alert,” mobilizing a joint operation that involves the Civil Police, Military Police, Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Federal Highway Police (PRF) of both states.

The punishment to Gaviões da Fiel was applied last week, following a fight involving members of the Corinthians fan group and Torcida Independente, from São Paulo, after the Majestic match at the end of November. On that occasion, members of both fan groups clashed in the Bexiga region, in the center of São Paulo's capital. In their defense, Gaviões claimed that the fans were victims of an ambush while returning to their vehicles. However, the prosecutor responsible for the case argued that the meeting was not accidental, classifying the episode as a “pre-planned armed confrontation,” especially given the number of people involved.

The court ruling states that no fan can enter the stadium with items referencing the organized group. Caps, clothing, banners, flags, or any item linked to Gaviões are prohibited. In classics played in São Paulo, the single-fan model is already in effect. In matches outside the state, however, it is up to local federations and respective Public Prosecutor's Offices to decide whether to follow the recommendation. The expectation is that the organized group will also be present at the final match at Maracanã.

Given the history of clashes between fans, a strict protocol has been established for the movement of the visiting fans. To avoid ambushes and conflicts on Via Dutra, only fans with confirmed tickets will be allowed to board the caravans' buses in Rio de Janeiro. The vehicles' license plates have been registered and are being monitored, while the PRF and the Shock Battalion accompany the route. Upon crossing the border with São Paulo, Vasco's buses will be intercepted and escorted directly to the Neo Química Arena. The same scheme will be applied in reverse for the return game in Rio de Janeiro for Corinthians fans.

Around the stadium, there will be an expanded security perimeter, with checkpoints installed on the main access roads. Only fans with physical or digital tickets will be allowed to circulate in nearby areas, aiming to curb scalping and avoid crowds at the turnstiles.

In a note sent to UOL, the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) stated that the Civil and Military Police will act in an integrated manner to reinforce oversight. According to the statement, the PM's operational planning will be coordinated by the 2nd Shock Police Battalion, with ostensive policing before, during, and after the match.

“The force will be deployed both inside and around the stadium, ensuring the safety of the public's movement, traffic flow, flow control, prevention of illegal activities, and monitoring of the fans, according to a prior risk analysis”, informed the SSP.

At the beginning of the year, during the final of the Campeonato Paulista against Palmeiras, all organized fan groups, including Gaviões da Fiel, were punished for using flares and fireworks at the Neo Química Arena. However, the measure was reversed in October after signing a conduct adjustment agreement, in which the fan groups committed not to repeat the festive acts.
