Valencia suffered another injury blow against Rayo as captain José Gayà became the second player to go off, after Renzo Saravia in the first half.

As reported by AS, it proved a bruising evening for Valencia’s full-backs. Around minute 70, Gayà felt discomfort in his right thigh and went to ground for treatment. The club’s medical staff decided he could not continue.

Carlos Corberán immediately summoned Jesús Vázquez, who came on to take the left side.

Two minutes earlier, the coach had made a triple change, withdrawing Javi Guerra, Pepelu and Hugo Duro for Sadiq, Ramaani and Ugrinic.

With Saravia forced off before the interval and Gayà later, Valencia completed their five substitutions sooner than planned.
