Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s presence (or lack thereof) has aroused an element of mystery, with speculation that his powers at AC Milan have been downsized.
Ibrahimovic was not seen at Milanello in the build up to the Como game, with the official reason being that he was/is suffering from the flu. However, it comes during a time when there is talk of him reflecting on his future, after CEO Giorgio Furlani obtained full decision-making powers.
This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) initially had a section titled: ‘Ibra, where are you?’. However, in the actual print version of the newspaper it has been replaced by the news regarding a phone call between Furlani and Max Allegri.
As the paper writes, Zlatan was not at San Siro for Milan-Como and did not show up at Milanello even in the week before the match. In addition to the physical absence, though, it is the silence that is striking.
The Senior Advisor of RedBird Capital for Milan has not published on his social media on which he is usually active. In fact, he has not posted since February 25 with the release of his interview and photo shoot for GQ Italia.
His last appearance in front of the cameras dates back to the post-match of Milan-Feyenoord, over a month ago. Ibrahimovic was present at Milanello after the defeat against Torino and on the eve of the match against Bologna, doing some interviews then.
He was also at the forefront of the search for the new sporting director, holding meetings in London alongside Gerry Cardinale. The slowdown came after Furlani’s trip to the USA, where it was reiterated that the CEO should have the final say.
