Villarreal trained at Miralcamp on Friday ahead of Espanyol’s visit to La Cerámica on Monday at 21:00, with Gerard Moreno working alone and his fitness a major concern.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he completed light running during the 15 minutes open to media and the club offered no comment. Given his record, he could have minor muscular discomfort and precautions are being taken.

He is a doubt to face Espanyol and clarity is expected after the next sessions and Marcelino García Toral’s press conference. Moreno scored both goals at Osasuna and has seven in LaLiga.

His season began with a thigh issue in the league opener against Oviedo, sidelining him for 65 days and nine matches. He returned on 18 October, played six league games, then relapsed after Anoeta, before resuming in Elche and sustaining an excellent month.

Thomas Partey, despite training earlier in the week, was absent and joins Foyth, Costa, Alfon and Kambwala on the sidelines. Ayoze Pérez also looks unlikely to feature, having trained with a bandage and not at full pace.

Getafe v Villarreal has moved from Sunday 15 February at 16:15 to Saturday 14 at the same time due to the Copa del Rey semi-finals, leaving Marcelino’s side a day less to prepare for the Coliseum.

Villarreal will host Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Youth League last-16 at the Mini on 24 or 25 February, time to be confirmed. If they progress, Reina’s team will face PSG or Helsinki at home.
