Luxembourg put up a surprising and stubborn fight, but Germany eventually showed their technical class, running out 2-0 winners thanks to a brace from Nick Woltemade, taking a major step towards a direct World Cup spot.

Top of Group A in the qualifiers, Germany now have 12 points, edging Slovakia on goal difference. In the final, decisive round on home soil, they face Slovakia and need only a draw to book their place at the World Cup.

Luxembourg, yet to pick up any points in the European Qualifiers, exceeded expectations and made life uncomfortable for the heavyweights.

Fired up by their home crowd, they took the game to Germany, creating early openings, particularly through Danel Sinani and Aiman Dardari.

Germany struggled to find their rhythm initially, with the best early chance falling to Florian Wirtz, who was denied by goalkeeper Anthony Moris.

After the interval, the visitors stepped up. Just four minutes into the second half, Leroy Sané surged down the right and squared for Woltemade, who calmly slotted the ball into the corner to make it 1-0.

Luxembourg reacted immediately, with Dardari cutting in from the left and firing low, narrowly missing the post.

Germany remained composed and doubled their advantage shortly after. Another sweeping pass from Sané found Ridle Baku, who laid the ball off perfectly for Woltemade to complete his brace and seal the win.
