FIFA president Gianni Infantino said in a social media post that he spoke with US president Donald Trump on Tuesday evening and that Trump considered Iran welcome to compete in the United States, adding that the World Cup is needed to bring people together amid the war in the Middle East.

The conversation focused on the World Cup, due to run from 11 June to 19 July across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
