Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to start for Liverpool after Alisson was ruled out five days before the PSG first leg. According to L'Équipe, the Georgian is expected to keep goal for the Champions League tie.
He became the first Georgian to play for Liverpool after a €30 million move from Valencia in 2024. Officially registered last summer following a 2024-2025 loan back to Valencia, he has made 13 appearances this season, the latest a 2-1 win over Brighton on 21 March. He is the sixth Georgian to appear in the Premier League, after Georgi Kinkladze, Temur Ketsbaia, Zurab Khizanishvili, Mikheil Kavelashvili and Rati Aleksidze.
Mamardashvili debuted for Georgia in 2021 at 20 under Willy Sagnol. At Euro 2024, where Georgia reached the last 16 before losing 4-1 to Spain, he made 29 saves in four matches, with 21 in the group stage. His 11 stops against the Czech Republic in a 1-1 draw are a group-stage record.
He is one of few left-footed keepers to play in the Premier League this season, alongside Robin Roefs of Sunderland and Jordan Pickford of Everton. Distribution remains a work in progress, but his 1.97m frame gives him major reach on his line.
For Valencia’s 2-1 win over Real Madrid last season, he saved a Vinicius Junior penalty on matchday 30, later saying he pocketed €50 from a wager with the Brazilian. Across his last two La Liga seasons he ranked in the top four for penalty saves, with a 50% success rate in 2023-2024 and 28.6% the following campaign.
Born in Tbilisi, he wears number 25 at Liverpool in tribute to his father Davit, a former goalkeeper who also wore 25. In a club interview in September 2025 he said he was continuing his father’s legacy. The last Liverpool player to wear 25 was Pepe Reina, who made 394 appearances from 2005 to 2013.
