Girona and FC Barcelona are in advanced negotiations over the transfer of academy prospect Brian Farinas, with a clear financial roadmap established between the clubs, reports journalist Nil Sola.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who captained the reserve side Barça Atletic at times last season, is edging closer to a permanent move to Estadi Montilivi.

Should the deal be completed as expected, Farinas would become the latest young talent to depart from the Blaugrana’s reserve team, along with the likes of Quim Junyent, Dani Rodriguez, Victor Barbera, and Ander Astralaga, among others.

50% rights for €1.5 million

As per the journalist, negotiations have moved forward with a specific economic formula agreed upon by both club hierarchies.

Girona, who were relegated this past season, are prepared to pay a fixed fee of around €1.5 million to secure 50% of the player’s economic rights from the La Liga champions.

This co-ownership structure provides a balanced solution: it grants Girona a talented young playmaker at an accessible price, whilst allowing Barcelona to retain a significant 50% financial upside on any future sale.

The report further adds that there is still no closed and definitive agreement signed with either Barcelona or the player himself as of today.

However, the overarching intention shared by all involved parties is that the operation will be successfully finalised in the coming days.

A strategic move

Farinas has been at La Masia for eight years now, having joined the academy from Villarreal all the way back in 2018. The player’s decision to leave Barcelona stems from his desire for higher-tier competitive minutes.

Despite an excellent individual campaign under Juliano Belletti, where he racked up five goals and seven assists across 33 appearances, Barça Atletic’s failure to secure promotion convinced Farinas that his cycle with the reserve ranks had concluded.

Though first-team manager Hansi Flick previously rewarded the midfielder with senior training call-ups, the pathway to regular first-team minutes remained heavily congested.

Therefore, a move to Girona offers the young midfielder the perfect environment to continue his professional development.

Meanwhile, by retaining the player’s 50% economic rights, Barcelona will hold some degree of control on his future.
