Oliver Glasner has admitted that Marc Guehi could leave Crystal Palace this month if a significant offer arrives.
Guehi is out of contract at the end of the season and expected to leave as a free agent if no transfer materialises this month. The England international has turned down a new deal at Selhurst Park and is subject of interest from clubs across Europe.
Liverpool agreed a £35m fee to sign Guehi in the summer, but the deal collapsed on deadline day after Crystal Palace failed to sign a replacement.
The Reds remain interested in signing the 25-year-old, while Manchester City are keen on a deal to sign the centre-back this month amid the club’s defensive injuries.
Speaking ahead of Crystal Palace’s clash with Aston Villa tonight, Glasner said he is not ‘naive’ to the situation. The Austrian admitted Palace will sell the club captain if the finances make sense.
“There’s the situation that the contract ends in the summer. Iif somebody is coming, there will be a moment when the club says: ‘Now the financial issue is more important than the sport issue.’ We have to do it and try to get the best. That’s why I’m always saying: ‘I don’t know.’ Because this is different”.
“There will be a threshold where the club has to say [sell] … If the player says: ‘I want to leave’ and the money is above the threshold, it will happen. I’m not so naive not to know that if a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen.”
