Experienced midfielder renews deal at Eintracht Frankfurt through to 2028.
Eintracht Frankfurt have secured the services of Mario Götze for another two years, after the 33-year-old agreed an extension to his contract, which was due to expire on 30 June 2026, until 2028. Götze, part of the six-man leadership group in the team, moved to Frankfurt from PSV Eindhoven ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The 2014 World Cup hero has made a total of 148 appearances for the Eagles, playing over 10,200 minutes and registering 12 goals and 18 assists. In the current campaign, he has featured in 26 games across the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and DFB Cup.
“Mario is a very important player for the team and the club, and an equally important personality,” said board member for sport Markus Krösche. “He’s experienced almost everything in his professional career, gone through highs and lows, and as such has gained a wealth of experience which he wants to share with the many young players at our club. His contract extension is a strong commitment to Eintracht. This identification with the club and the city is very important, particularly with a view to next season. We’re delighted that Mario is staying with us.”
“Eintracht Frankfurt means a great deal to me. I’ve been here for almost four years and had a great time so far,” Götze said. “My family and I feel very at home in Frankfurt. At this stage of my career, a lot of factors come into play – I know that every football career has to come to an end. That makes me appreciate every moment on the pitch and in the stadium even more. The love I have for football and for this club is what convinced me to extend my contract. We have a few challenges to overcome right now, but we’re ready to face them. And who knows what’s possible in the near future? I’d really love another cup win, for example…”
