Gonçalves double lifts Sporting CP to second | OneFootball

Sporting CP beat Alverca 4-1 at Complexo Desportivo FC Alverca, climbing from third to second in Liga Portugal.

In the 22nd minute, Pedro Gonçalves put the visitors ahead with a low finish from the left.

Luis Suárez doubled the lead (50.), set up by Hidemasa Morita, before Geny Catamo added a precise strike from distance (68.) after Morten Hjulmand's pass. Suárez is now on 24 goals, top of the Liga Portugal scoring chart.

Marko Milovanovic pulled one back for Alverca (83.) from Isaac James' pass, but Gonçalves sealed it with a free-kick into the bottom corner (86.).

A VAR check brought no penalty for the Leões (48.).

Nuno Santos departed injured in the first half, replaced by Georgios Vagiannidis. In the third minute of second half stoppage time, Gonçalves went off injured after the Leões had used all their substitutions.

The Leões controlled 68.8% possession and recorded nine shots on target. Alverca registered four efforts on target from 12 attempts.

Alverca visit Rio Ave next. The Leões host Santa Clara in the league, then face Arsenal in the Champions League.
