Gotham FC must earn a minimum of four points on their April road trip | OneFootball

After going winless in their first three games, NJ/NY Gotham FC finally won their first match of the NWSL season when the ladies beat the North Carolina Courage. The 3-1 win was by far the best game in the young season and has created hope that the Bats are on the right track.

However, for the rest of April, Gotham FC will be on the road. The ladies will face Angel City FC, Portland Thorns FC, and the Washington Spirit. All of the teams, including the NJ/NY side, sit in third place through sixth in the standings. Again, it is early in the season, but this fact, added with the Bats being on the road for three games, makes this stretch extremely difficult.

Of course, despite the difference with the roster compared to 2024, expectations are high for Gotham in 2025. The team should be at the top of the table since there are still many stars and talented players back from last season. Plus, the roster itself and the options for the Starting XI are too talented to not be in the top half of the table, but really the top third.

Gotham FC should win at least once on the road trip

So, with the road trip in mind, what should fans expect from Gotham FC over the next three games? At a minimum, the team should earn four points and go 1-1-1. Ideally, they will win more than one match, but they should win at least once.

To be successful on this road trip, the Bats must capture the performance they had against North Carolina. They were strong offensively and defensively and the chemistry throughout the Starting XI was more natural. It felt like the team had played together for years.

Additionally, they will likely have to strive to get the win, or perhaps two wins, on the West Coast. The reason is simple, for the next match in the club's time zone will be against the Washington Spirit. The D.C. team was kryptonite for Gotham in 2024, outplaying them and beating them in three of the four matches. The one win came when many of the stars from both teams were away for the Summer Olympics.

That is why Gotham FC must do everything they can to beat Angel City or Portland. Hopefully, 2025 will be different against the Spirit, but that cannot be guaranteed.

The expectation is that the Bats will return home with a minimum of four points. The team is capable of earning more though, so that is why going 1-1-1 is the minimum expectation. Gotham FC must be diligent, work hard, and fight for all three points in every game.
