Amine Gouiri came off the bench to clinch a 1-0 win for OM over Auxerre at the Vélodrome on Friday, a flash of quality on a dull night in a season disrupted by injuries.

Introduced in the 62nd minute, OM removed a defender for an extra forward and finally gained fluency, L'Équipe notes. Gouiri dropped into the centre circle to release Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, then arrived to meet Igor Paixao’s deflected cross off Sinaly Diomandé and finished right-footed through Bryan Okoh’s legs in the 79th minute.

The Vélodrome has long suited Gouiri. In 2026 he has a double against Lens on 24 January, a goal and assist versus Rennes in the Coupe de France on 3 February, and the same against Strasbourg on 14 February, taking him to seven goal involvements in his last four home games.

A first-half boycott of chants did not unsettle him. On Ligue 1+ he said he was happy, that they needed the three points, expected a hostile night, and had to push with the crowd against Auxerre’s back five.

In under half an hour he managed 17 touches, only 12 fewer than Aubameyang across 90 minutes, and he nearly had a second in the 85th minute from Mason Greenwood’s pass, only for Diomandé to divert his shot.

His 2025 ended in October with a shoulder injury. He returned for the 0-2 loss to Nantes on 4 January, then started the Trophée des champions against PSG, which finished 2-2 before a 1-4 shootout defeat.
