Graeme Souness, the former Benfica manager, is stranded in Abu Dhabi after his flight to the United Kingdom was cancelled, with loud detonations heard at the airport.
According to Glorioso 1904, Souness posted on social media that he is stuck in the city after the cancellation, which he linked to the fallout from a joint United States and Israel attack on Iran.
He described hearing strong bangs, said he would abandon immediate travel plans and check into a hotel for a couple of nights, then assess the situation. He added that he hoped the situation would calm so he could resume his journey.
Edinburgh-born Souness first made his name as a player with Tynecastle, Tottenham, Montreal Olympique, Middlesbrough, West Adelaide, Liverpool, Sampdoria and Rangers, before retiring in 1989.
He later managed Rangers, Liverpool, Galatasaray, Southampton, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle and Leicester City. He led Benfica between 1997 and 1999, overseeing 71 official matches with 41 wins, 15 draws and 15 defeats.
