Graham Potter has emerged as a candidate for the managerial role at Rangers after Steven Gerrard unexpectedly pulled out of the race to succeed Russell Martin, according to the Daily Mail.
Martin’s Ibrox stint ended after just four months in charge, which yielded five wins in 17 outings across all competitions.
Gerrard, who previously managed Rangers from 2018 to 2021, was widely expected to return following Martin’s sacking.
However, he has decided against rejoining Rangers at this time, citing that the timing was not right for him to come back.
His decision has sent the club back to the drawing board in the search for a new manager.
With Gerrard stepping back, Potter has been sounded out by Rangers as a potential replacement.
Potter faced difficulties in his latest role at West Ham United, recording a 24 percent win rate. However, his past achievements and possession-based playing style make him an intriguing option.
The Rangers board appears willing to consider Potter alongside other managerial options such as Danny Rohl and Gary O’Neil. Rohl is reportedly the favourite at this stage.
Rangers are eighth in the league after a poor start to the 2025/26 campaign, during which they have won just one game in seven outings.
The Glasgow-based outfit will be expected to ramp up their managerial search in the coming week with a view to having a fresh face in the dugout for Saturday’s clash against Dundee United.
