Leeds United claimed their first pre-season win, beating Sunderland 1-0, with centre-back Tarik Muharemovic catching the eye.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Muharemovic was awarded eight out of 10, while several attackers were marked at six.

Leeds went ahead in unusual fashion on 25 minutes, Lukas Nmecha punished poor positioning by Melker Ellborg with a 40-yard strike. Sunderland’s best first-half opening fell to Brian Brobbey, who scuffed Reinildo’s cross.

Leeds made six changes at half-time, Sunderland then overhauled most of their side around the hour as the game became bitty. Half-chances followed for Daniel James and Anton Stach. The Whites defended stoutly to see it out and keep a clean sheet.

Alex Cairns, six, was largely untested but tidy, though his long kicks were mixed. Joe Rodon, seven, was good in the air and supported attacks, while Sebastiaan Bornauw, seven, stayed solid under pressure. Jayden Bogle, seven, provided a regular outlet on the right, and Sean Longstaff, six, worked hard with limited impact.
