Granit Xhaka told Sunderland supporters that Europa League qualification is only the beginning, delivering an emotional address on the Stadium of Light pitch, according to Sunderland Echo.

A capacity crowd stayed for a lap of appreciation after a 2-1 win over Chelsea on the final day secured a seventh-place Premier League finish.

As fans sang his name, the captain thanked the owner, Flo and the coach, paid tribute to players, staff and everyone at the club, and said the squad were determined to bring more success to Wearside. He told supporters their backing at home and away made it possible and stressed this was just the start, adding that they want more.

He urged everyone to enjoy the moment together and said they would see supporters soon.

Head coach Régis Le Bris also thanked the crowd, recalling last year’s Wembley date on 24th of May, and described this as a special day. He praised the players’ hard work, thanked the owners, the head of football and backroom staff, and told fans to enjoy their summer, adding that the team will need them next season, even better than this season.
