Sunderland’s squad flooded social media after their dramatic Tyne-Wear derby comeback at St James’ Park, their posts mixing gratitude and pride. According to Sunderland Echo, images and messages captured the scale of the result for players and travelling fans.

The win followed an early setback before a forceful second half turned the game. Chemsdine Talbi, aged 20 years and 317 days, became the youngest Sunderland player to score against Newcastle in the Premier League.

Goalkeeper Melker Ellborg shared the away end and wrote, “Massive win today! Thanks for the support,” adding red and white hearts.

Omar Alderete posted “+3” with red and white hearts and a clenched fist, a nod to the points banked and the fight shown.

Lutsharel Geertruida added, “Fair to say, Tyne and Wear is...” with red and white symbols. Sunderland are unbeaten in their last 11 league games against Newcastle, who have not won this fixture at home since 2010 or in the league since 2011.

Granit Xhaka posted an image with the words, “This one means everything,” alongside a red heart and his personal hashtag. His visible first-half frustration, and the turnaround in both his display and Sunderland’s after the break, gave the message added weight.

Match-winner Brian Brobbey replied, “Yess my captain,” while other responses called the victory “historic”. Exchanges between teammates in the comments underlined unity in a dressing room still riding the momentum.
