Speaking to BetFair (h/t AS), former Barcelona and Brazil superstar Rivaldo has come out in defence of Real Madrid forward Rodrygo after the 23-year-old’s recent outburst on his Whatsapp channel.

Following the 1-1 draw against RCD Mallorca, Rodrygo posted a message on his Whatsapp channel reminding fans and the media to not count him out amidst all the talk and hype surrounding the ‘BMV’ trio of Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius Jr.

The Brazilian international quickly deleted the post after writing it, but it has stirred up somewhat of a controversy, even leading to speculations that Rodrygo might leave Real Madrid next year.

However, now Rivaldo has come out in support of Rodrygo, stating that his compatriot is very much deserving of being considered at the same level as Bellingham, Mbappe, or Vinicius.

“He has every reason to complain and give the press and people who only talk about the three of them, about Mbappe, Bellingham and Vinicius, a lot of reasons to complain,” the Barcelona legend remarked.

“Rodrygo is a very important player at Real Madrid and he shouldn’t fall behind any of his attacking teammates. Rodrygo is on the same level as Mbappe, Bellingham or Vinicius. He has every reason to talk about it because he is at their level.”

Further continuing, Rivaldo insisted that not highlighting Rodrygo’s importance at Real Madrid was a ‘great injustice’ as he is a top player who makes a difference for the team.

“He is a forward who has been making a difference at a club like Real Madrid for years. And not talking about his importance seems to me to be a great injustice,” he stated.

“Of course, when you refer to Real Madrid you always want the players to be motivated and attract attention, but Rodrygo has nothing to detract from his teammates.”

Despite all the noise, Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti consider Rodrygo an important player in the scheme of things. The club even handed him a long-term renewal until 2028 only last year and he will continue to be a regular in the team.
