Grêmio have confirmed Franco Cristaldo has left the club, with the midfielder out of Luis Castro’s plans. The club said in a statement it had agreed to terminate the midfielder’s contract. It thanked him for his professionalism and wished him success in the next stage of his career.
He had not been named in recent squads for the Brasileirão or the Campeonato Gaúcho. Since the start of this year he had been among the likeliest to depart as the club sought to cut the wage bill and free an overseas slot.
After agreeing his exit, the Argentine is expected to join Talleres. He also received an offer from Toronto FC, but talks did not progress due to requirements from his camp.
Cristaldo arrived in December 2022 from Huracán for about 4.5 million dollars, R$ 24.5 million at the time, which was then a club-record outlay.
He played 165 matches for the Tricolor, scoring 28 goals and supplying 23 assists. He won the Campeonato Gaúcho in 2023 and 2024, and lifted the Recopa Gaúcha in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
