Grêmio’s new hierarchy are prioritising Tetê as they seek reinforcements for manager Luis Castro, but Panathinaikos have rejected a loan and will only discuss a sale.
GZH reports that the Brazilian club are now weighing a purchase offer, with Tetê already having an agreement with Grêmio and seeking his release from the Greek side, where he is contracted until June 2028.
Internally, Grêmio are studying how to structure a bid. Given the club’s finances, any deal could depend on player exits to generate immediate funds, and the board are counting on Tetê’s involvement in this next phase of talks.
Other options are also being assessed. Victor Sá has been sounded out, helped by his relationship with Castro from their time together at Botafogo between 2022 and 2023.
The figure understood to secure Tetê is around 5 million euros, roughly R$ 32.7 million, likely requiring a lengthy instalment plan acceptable to Panathinaikos.
Tetê returned to Greece at the start of this week and is following the club’s programme ahead of their 11 January fixture. He is expected to train as normal.
