Grêmio have been drawn in Copa Sudamericana Group F with Palestino, Montevideo City Torque and Deportivo Riestra. The group stage is scheduled to begin from 7 April. Only the top team reaches the last 16, the runner-up enters a play-off against a Libertadores third-placed side.
According to Globo.com, here is a concise look at Grêmio’s Group F rivals.
Palestino are coached by 42-year-old Cristián Muñoz in his first season. League form is poor, eight points leaves them 13th of 16, yet they knocked out Universidad de Chile 2-1 to make the groups. Striker Nelson da Silva has scored five in eight this year.
Montevideo City Torque are in only their second Sudamericana. They play at Estadio Charrúa, capacity 14,000, and used the Centenario for some internationals. Under Marcelo Méndez, appointed in July 2025, they sit fourth with 11 points, one defeat in eight, after a 1-0 win over Defensor.
Deportivo Riestra, from Buenos Aires, debuted in the top flight in 2024 and qualified after finishing sixth overall last year. Coached by 40-year-old Gustavo Benítez, they have one win in 11 this year and none in 10 Apertura rounds, sit 14th, penultimate, in Group A, and are five matches without a goal. Goalkeeper Nacho Arce, in his fourth season, fronts a defence with only six conceded.
